As spring begins to make way for summer the flowers are all in full bloom now and we are surrounded by many different pretty florals. An abundance of beautiful flowers also makes the perfect inspiration for styling an event. This botanical inspired baby shower was styled by Dream a Little Dream Events and I Heart Table Art. The shoot was a collaboration of vendors from the Life's Little Celebrations group to create a stunning botanical inspired editorial filled with seedlings, lush greenery and cascading florals intermingled with the rose and copper tones. The event was photographed by Nikki Duncan from Love Her Photography.
Here at ELK Prints I contributed a series of botanical paintings used to decorate the event. Two new original watercolour artworks were created specifically for the shoot and prints of some of my previous botanical paintings were also incorporated into the backdrop of the gift station. I also created custom gift tags with each illustration drawn directly onto the gift tag and hand-painted. A set of gift tags using Victorian style pressed flowers were also made.
Historical botanical paintings were a key inspiration point for the photoshoot. This original painting I created was inspired directly by one of the traditional illustrations that had also been used in the stationary set. I inked the flowers in sepia before finishing off the design with a delicate wash of watercolour.
Collaborations are a wonderful way for the various creatives involved to be able to showcase their talents and join together to reflect the vision of the stylists. The centrepiece cake by My Petite Sweets features delicate hand-painted details and a spectacular sugar work flower. Paper flower bulbs from Hanging Pretty make a unique table decoration piece and were all lovingly handmade. Daniella from Eve and Co created the beautiful invitation design using the historical botanical illustrations interwoven with foil details. Stunning overflowing cascades of flowers filled the entire venue courtesy of The Black Posy company whilst Frosted by Nicci created the wonderful vintage seed-packet inspired cookies.
The drinks station setup features pink moscato and peach fizz cocktails. Custom labels on the mini magnum bottles were a clever way to reinforce the theme of the event. Small little dessert stations were also set up in amongst the lush nursery setting of Little Leaf Co.
The watercolour rose painting was a new original artwork I created inspired by the stylist's brief that referenced botanical traditions. I also sent across prints of some of my other botanical artworks which were used to decorate the back of the gifting station.
I loved being able to play around with making my own pressed flowers in the Victorian style and really indulging in my love of botanicals and the history of their illustration and collection.
